Take STEM projects to the next level by incorporating escape rooms! These fun STEM challenges also include breakout activities.
These are interactive games where the students are timed. Students will have to solve a string of questions and clues, as well as decode different ciphers to escape their scenarios. For lower elementary classrooms I suggest that these games be played as a whole class. Then, once you reach the building/engineering portion of the game split into groups. However, if you want to play in groups, print the black and white version out, and then copy each group onto a different color of paper.
**Versions with and without QR codes included!
You can decide how much time your students have to complete each challenge. I suggest 60 minutes, but it is up to your discretion. You can project a timer for your class, or put one somewhere for all the students to see, so they can keep track of how much time they have left to complete their task.
These are similar to scavenger hunts where students are moving around the room, looking for clues to unlock their envelopes (I have included riddles and suggestions on where to hide each clue). A paper is provided so students can write their work down. For many of the questions, students must have an answer that matches one on an envelope. If the answers do not match, they can’t open or “unlock” the envelope, and must rework the question.
*Everything is included, however teachers must provide their own envelopes and STEM materials.
I give step by step instructions on how to set up each game, including pictures! This is sure to capture the attention of your students.
**These escape room differ from my other escape room games, because the games are shorter to provide students time to complete their STEM challenges. However, setting the game up is similar to all my other Cracking the Classroom Code® escape room games.
