Cracking the Classroom Code™ 4th Grade Fractions Escape Room

Rated 4.99 out of 5 based on 98 customer ratings
(99 customer reviews)

$5.00

Will your class escape in time? Uh oh! A mob of monsters has overtaken your classroom! To escape, you
must solve a string of clues and math problems hidden throughout the room. As you answer each question, you will get one step closer to breaking free from these crazy monsters. This is a review game for the concepts taught in 4th grade, under the domain of Numbers and Operations-Fractions. If your class has never played an escape game or breakout game before, I suggest playing as a whole class for the first time.

Will your class escape in time? Uh oh! A mob of monsters has overtaken your classroom! To escape, you

This is a review game for the concepts taught in 4th grade, under the domain of Numbers and Operations-Fractions. If your class has never played an escape game or breakout game before, I suggest playing as a whole class for the first time.

**Versions with and without QR codes included.

This is an interactive game where the students are timed. Students try and solve clues and math problems to breakout and escape the classroom. You, the teacher, can decide how much time your students have to complete the task. I will suggest 45 minutes, but it is up to your discretion. You can project a timer for your class, or put one somewhere for all the students to see, so they can keep track of how much time they have left to complete their task.

This is similar to a scavenger hunt where students will be moving around the room, looking for clues to unlock their envelopes (I have included riddles and suggestions on where to hide each clue). To unlock their envelopes, students will need to solve math problems. A paper is provided so students can show their work for each problem. For many of the questions, students must have an answer that matches one on an envelope. If the answers do not match, they can’t open or “unlock” the envelope, and must rework the problem.

*Everything is included, however teachers must provide their own envelopes.

I give step by step instructions on how to set up the game, including pictures! This is sure to capture the attention of your students.

Topics covered include:
Equivalent fractions
Comparing fractions
Adding fractions
Subtracting fractions
Adding mixed numbers
Subtracting mixed numbers
Multiplying fractions by a whole number
Using decimals for fractions with denominators 10 or 100.

Overall I love this! I do feel like my students definitely needed me to do whole class every time I used one. However, that could just be for my group of students next year. I’m looking forward to trying again next year as we are going to try to ability group kids and I think my high kids could fly with this!

This was a very engaging way to review for our fractions unit test. Thanks for including such a variety of questions in a fun format. (I found some insta-snow packets on e-bay for super cheap, which I gave out as a reward to those that escaped within our 50 minute time frame.)

    Deanna R. – April 25, 2018

This is a great product, and I likt that all of the Breaking the Classroom Code games are designed in a similar way. It helpd the kids know what to do after you have done a few. My only problem is that it definitely takes more than 45 minutes, but that is more a problem with my students than with the product.
