Why Digital Games + Digital Escape Rooms Make Your Teacher Life Easier

The digital world of technology is honestly where I feel most at home. I started diving into the world of technology the past few years and with technology, it truly seems that the possibilities are endless! As a former teacher, I understand how valuable PLAN TIME is for teachers and making things as simple as possible. This is why I think using digital games and digital escape rooms definitely makes your teaching life easier!

What is a Digital Escape Room?

A digital escape room is an activity that you can do as an entire class or in small groups. It definitely creates a team-building experience. You know those Escape Rooms that you pay to go to with family and friends, get locked in a room and then work together as a team to solve the puzzles and clues to figure out how to escape? Yep-that’s pretty much what Class Escape Rooms are and I have created many DIGITAL ones for teachers to use as well as paper ones!

Digital Escape Rooms are assigned through Google Drive. You can make a digital copy for each student or group and assign it to them through Google Classroom, Seesaw or whichever online platform you use with your students. You can use the digital versions if you are teaching virtually OR in person (There are paper versions for in-person also.)

How Can You Use a Digital Escape Room?

If you are teaching virtually, then you can put students into breakout rooms as groups to complete the digital escape room or they can each complete the escape room individually. The positives of using an escape room that is already created for you is that it will give your students about 35-45 minutes of instruction that is:

  • Already planned for you
  • Engaging
  • Challenging
  • Interactive
  • Self-checking (hello time-saver!)
  • Fun
  • Different than a worksheet or typical assignment
  • Motivation to solve the answers correctly in order to escape!

What is a Digital Game?

A digital game is very similar to the Digital Escape rooms discussed above. It is a game created that can be assigned to students on a device that has internet such as a laptop or ipad. Many of my digital games are math themed but digital games can be about any subject. You can use digital games for math stations, independent work, homework, morning work or to maintain a skill taught.  Digital games are self-checking, interactive and fun!
