Cracking the Classroom Code™ 4th Grade Operations and Algebraic Thinking

$5.00

Will your class escape in time? Uh oh! Your students are stuck on Mars! Their satellite is broken, and they must fix it to communicate with Earth and return home. Students must breakout from their risky situation, by solving a string of clues hidden around the classroom. This is a review game for the math concepts taught in 4th grade under the domain of operations and algebraic thinking. It can be played in small groups, or as a whole class. If your class has never played an escape game before, I suggest playing as a whole class for the first time.

Will your class escape in time? Uh oh! Your students are stuck on Mars! Their satellite is broken, and they must fix it to communicate with Earth and return home. If your class has never played an escape game before, I suggest playing as a whole class for the first time.

**Versions with and without QR codes included

This is an interactive game where the students are timed. Students try and solve clues and math problems to breakout and escape the classroom. You, the teacher, can decide how much time your students have to complete the task. I will suggest 45 minutes, but it is up to your discretion. You can project a timer for your class, or put one somewhere for all the students to see, so they can keep track of how much time they have left to complete their task.

This is similar to a scavenger hunt where students will be moving around the room, looking for clues to unlock their envelopes (I have included riddles and suggestions on where to hide each clue). To unlock their envelopes, students will need to solve math problems. A paper is provided so students can show their work for each problem. For many of the questions, students must have an answer that matches one on an envelope. If the answers do not match, they can’t open or “unlock” the envelope, and must rework the problem.

*Everything is included, however teachers must provide their own envelopes.

I give step by step instructions on how to set up the game, including pictures! This is sure to capture the attention of your students.

Topics covered in this game:
Operations and Algebraic Thinking
*Multiplying and dividing real world problems.
*Solve multi-step word problems with whole numbers using the four operations.
*Represent problems in equations with a letter standing in for an unknown quantity.
*Finding factors and multiples.
*Generate number patterns that follow a rule.

Great activity. It is overwhelling as a digital document, but once you print it everything starts to make sense on how to put it all together. My only issue was I did this as a summer school activity and so landmarks like calendars and clocks didn’t really work (I wish we could edit those little parts)

I absolutely love this product! It’s very fun and engaging. I wash looking for something out of the box and you gave that to me. I hope you will be making one for each domain of standards. I would totally buy for reading standards too but know those may be too complex to do. You always deliver on spectacular products.

  87. iTeach4thToo

We did a BreakoutEDU training this past Friday and I couldn’t wait to find a fun way to implement it into my classroom. Can’t wait to try this with my students next year! I hope you will be making one for each set of standards. What a fun way to review 🙂
